Upon entering this polished retreat, you'll immediately be greeted by the bright and open layout. The interior color palette seamlessly ties earthy browns, fresh whites, and cozy greys together, along with pops of vibrant yellow, to create a bright and inviting atmosphere that will instantly put you at ease and in a vacation state of mind. Outside, you'll find a covered open-air deck that provides the perfect space to enjoy breakfast or dinner al fresco and take in mountain or woodland views depending on the season. In the morning, enjoy your coffee on the back deck while you feel the fresh breeze and listen to the sound of birds and wind rustling through the trees.

After coffee, take the time to curl up on the couch with a good book, or take a late morning bath in the soaking tub while sipping a fresh mimosa. When you're ready, it is just a 20-minute stroll along the paved Flat Creek Greenway or a 3-minute drive into "The Little Town that Rocks," Black Mountain. Known as the "Front Porch of Western North Carolina," you'll spot the iconic red rocking chairs throughout this treasured small town that stand as your reminder to slow down, pull up a chair, and relax. Filled with novelty shops, art galleries, and boutiques, you can easily spend the entire day shopping for local goodies to help you remember your time in the mountains.

As your morning coffee begins to wear off, stop into the Dripolator Coffeehouse for house-roasted coffee and locally-made pastries. Just next door you'll find the Swannanoa Valley Museum and the Black Mountain Center for the Arts. SVM explores the general history of the Swannanoa Valley, and BMCA offers public exhibits, concerts, theatre, and a myriad of classes for all ages. Their upper floor gallery offers vibrant and diverse exhibits from regional artists and those who have some connection to the area and are free to the public throughout the week. After exploring regional history and art, walk a few doors down to enjoy delicious pub fare at The Trailhead, or pop into any of the many locally-owned restaurants and shops along Cherry Street in downtown Black Mountain.

For avid hikers, Montreat is a short 15-minute walk or a 2-minute drive away from Wendell's Ridge. Lookout Mountain is a great trail that's just under a mile long and offers stunning panoramic mountain views. As a reward for your hike, grab a cold one at Black Mountain Brewing or Lookout Brewing before heading over to Lake Tomahawk Park, where you can play a round of tennis, or take it easy on a bench to enjoy the view of the Seven Sisters Mountain range. In the evening, sit down to dinner at local favorite, Black Mountain Bistro, or head home to craft a delicious meal in the gourmet kitchen complete with stainless appliances and sparkling quartz countertops. After dinner, head downstairs to stream a movie or enjoy some friendly competition by playing board games together. Before turning in for the night, wander out onto the deck to stargaze, or gather around the newly added outdoor fire pit with a glass of wine to end the perfect day.

This certified silver "Green Built" home welcomes the entire family (including pets) to enjoy the majesty & calm of nature from a contemporary home base that offers unparalleled convenience!

PLEASE NOTE: This home is pet-friendly with an additional $100 pet fee per pet. There are a total of 5 exterior cameras (1 at the driveway, 1 at the garage, 1 at the front door, 1 above the lower level egress door, and 1 on the south side), and the homeowner confirms the number of pets brought to the home via these exterior cameras. Please park in the gravel area ONLY (not in the mulch or dirt areas).

We had a lovely 10 day stay at Wendell's Ridge and we hated to leave. The cabin had just the right balance of comfort and space for our family. We loved the large open porch and we were able to enjoy it both day and night, even during rainy afternoon showers. The proximity to town was delightful and we could either walk or drive to downtown depending on the mood. Thank you so much for sharing your space with us!

Family had an amazing time at this rental. Spacious house. Accommodated 8 people comfortably and some. Kids enjoyed the board games and fidgets. All items needed (bath towels, hand towels, blankets-the softest )and complimentary toiletries made our days super comfortable. The steep driveway was a little worrisome due to low temps/ice but house itself was everything we were looking for and more.

Wendell’s Ridge is like a perfect treehouse. The house was extremely clean and well stocked with cooking supplies to use. Thank you for sharing your home and allowing our happy furry family stay too. We also enjoyed seeing “BooBoo” the bear walk by. One concern was the camera on the back of the house seems to stare into the primary shower window. You might want to point it a different direction or place a covering over the window.

We had a delightful stay at Wendell’s Ridge. The home is immaculate and well prepared for visitors. We have made plans to return in 2024. Be prepared for cool breezes, even in July, deer and bear sightings in the distance, and lovely sunsets from the upper deck and family room. Grateful for such a comfortable and spacious home to rent.

Our group of five Senior Adult ladies absolutely loved Wendell's Ridge. The house was beautiful inside and out and stocked with everything we needed. The most enjoyable part for us was the covered deck area. Being surrounded by woods made this house very private. The only thing we would suggest is that there would be a larger coffee pot, maybe a 10-12 cup size. We would definitely book 'Wendell's Ridge' again for our ladies week out.

The home was nicely furnished and had everything we needed for a family of 4. We appreciated that it was a dog friendly property and the little details for the dog, we always take our own towels for the dog but they had a basket by the downstairs door with a towel to wipe the dogs feet. We enjoyed the covered deck. We utilized the notebook from the owners containing recommendations for hiking and restaurants.

The house was very clean and there was a nice amount of linens provided. Quick responses to questions/concerns and overall good communication.

FAQs

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Wendell's Ridge is located in Black Mountain and is a 3 minute drive or 20-minute walk to downtown. This home is a 5-minute drive to Lake Tomahawk and the Black Mountain Golf Club, and  approximately a 25-minute drive to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

This property offers a flexible cancellation policy that differs from the standard cancellation policy. The policy for this home is the moderate policy. The terms of the policy are as stated: Bookings canceled at least 30 days before the start of the stay will receive 100% refund. Bookings canceled at least 14 days before the start of the stay will receive 50% refund.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Wendell's Ridge is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Wendell's Ridge has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival, allowing you to go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm. 

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

This homes provides an outdoor fire pit. Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store. Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Wendell's Ridge. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
