An Asheville autumn presents a great opportunity for guests to bring along their four-legged family members. With cooler temps, dogs can better enjoy the incredible hikes and cool local places that make Asheville and its environs such a dog-friendly area.
First of all, secure a pet-welcoming rental by looking over the dog friendly listings at Greybeard Rentals. A few rental homes even have enclosed outdoor areas so be sure to contact Greybeard if you have particular needs for your dog while you’re here.
Asheville itself is welcoming of Fido with many stores and restaurants offering water bowls and some dog treats. In addition, many restaurants, cafes and breweries provide outdoor seating during temperate months. A first stop might be at the Dog Welcome Center which boasts of being the first dog welcome center in the US. In addition to goodie bags and doggie ice cream, this local stop, located across from the Grove Arcade downtown has some fantastic info on dog-friendly attractions and activities.
Three Dog Bakery, located at 21 Battery Park in downtown Asheville, has all natural, freshly-baked treats as well as party trays and cakes for your best friend. A local restaurant, Twisted Laurel, provides a special dog menu with a “twisted doggy bowl” as well as doggy snacks and desserts.
If you want to take in some of the key tourist hotspots, head on over to The Biltmore Estate. While dogs are not allowed in the estate buildings, they are allowed to stroll, leashed, throughout the grounds. The French Broad River Park has beautiful open spaces with large, mature trees, a riverside observation deck, and picnic areas. The dog park there, located in a one-acre, fenced-in area makes a terrific place to take in ambiance and give the dogs a chance to romp.
Actually, many of the trails on the Greybeard Hikes and Trails webpage are dog-friendly.
