"Above the Clouds" is nestled among 7 acres at the very top of Gateway Mountain. This authentic, three-level cabin is approximately 2,000 square feet, with stunning views from every room and the enchanting smell of pine throughout. Watching the lights come alive in the valley below and marveling at the colors of the mountains slowly changing as the sun sets will only further the feeling that there's no place like being "Above the Clouds."

About the Home
• Well-equipped kitchen with eat-in dining for 6, dishwasher, and standard drip-style coffee maker.
• Impressive great room with floor-to-ceiling windows, a wood-burning stone fireplace, and cable TV.
• The main floor deck boasts a gas grill, lounge chairs, a picnic table, and a screened-in porch with a gas fire table.

• The main floor offers a primary bedroom with a king-size bed and en suite bathroom (shower and bathtub combination). A powder room is also located on the main floor.
• The upper level offers two bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed, and a full bathroom (shower and bathtub combination) with hallway access only. A loft, overlooking the living room, provides additional living space with a daybed and games.
• The lower level offers a game room with a gas fireplace, 55" SmartTV, and custom-built log pool table; access to the covered deck with hot tub and sitting area.

PLAN TO ARRIVE DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS THE FIRST TIME. To get to this gorgeous cabin, you will have to navigate steep mountain roads with some twists and turns. The last part of the drive is a gravel road, so having a 4WD or AWD vehicle is REQUIRED. Getting there is part of the adventure!

Please Note: No parking is allowed on roadways or at gate entrances. No RVs, boat trailers, camping trailers, or trailers of any kind are permitted in the Gateway Mountain Community.

The cabin is absolutely beautiful! The views were stunning and the privacy was incredible. The lower level pool table, gas fireplace, and comfortable sectional was wonderful especially since it rained all day for one day of our stay. We were here for a week five years ago and it was one of our goals to get back! I highly recommend this cabin to anyone who isn’t afraid to drive the roads leading up to the cabin!

This place has the most amazing view and all the extras. Clean and spacious. Great hot tub and game room, including pool table. Fully stocked kitchen. Great location with lots to do. Well managed and professional. Highly recommend!

We love a really great mountain view and this didn’t disappoint. The outside decks were superb for taking in the stunning view. It was so peaceful, house was comfortable and well laid out and amenities provided were nice. If you’re looking for a place to disconnect, this is perfect.

We enjoyed the breath-taking views and all the amenities of this wonderful cabin. The weather cooperated every day along with the beautiful sunrises. We visited Chimney Rock and Hickory Nut Waterfalls and had a GREAT experience. Thank You so much for the wonderful Vacation.

This cabin was beyond amazing. Breathtaking views, the cabin was spotless, the property was STUNNING. The owners take VERY good care of the place! . Unfortunately, our stay was brief because the drive up the mountain was a little to extreme for us flat-landers but the sweetest lady, Susan, found us a new property more our speed (flat land, lol). Thank you so much for this experience. We will NEVER forget Above the clouds!

Cabin was absolutely gorgeous and exactly as described / pictured on the website. Greybeard was great to work with and everything was presented easily and clearly for our use. Seemed like every question we could have had was answered before we could even ask.

We loved everything. Beautiful home to beautiful environment. Staff are great. Also we love the location. We, as a family, were able to relax both emotionally and physically. Will definitely will come back.

Beautiful views, beautiful home, very clean, had everything we needed - even a ramp for our elderly dog to use to traverse the front steps. You will need an all-wheel drive or 4 wheel drive vehicle (4 wheel drive if it's rainy or snowing) as the last road and driveway are steep and gravel. My car has an off road mode so it worked out just fine. We loved it! We will be back.

The house was great. Had everything we needed, had a gorgeous view, and thought we were out an about a lot, we could have stayed at the cabin the whole time.

You can't beat that view! The property was well-maintained and as advertised. It was worth the the 15-20 up and down the mountain to get to food and sights.

How could anyone find the right words to describe the extraordinary view from this cabin?!? IT'S GLORIOUS!!! The cabin, itself, is perfect. It's evident that the owners have put much love and attention into furnishing it with the finest, most comfortable amenities. The adventurous drive up the mountain is well worth it...just to reach this incomparable piece of Heaven on earth. I can't wait to return!!!

Our family absolutely loved everything about this house and especially the views! The windows were amazing, we truly felt above the clouds, better than the pictures online! The back decks were such a nice place to relax, enjoy the view and soak in the hot tub. Most of our time at the house was spent on the decks. The house was clean, organized and had everything we could have possibly needed. We loved the location, so close to Asheville, we spent a day at the Biltmore and a day ziplining followed by shopping. It's a short drive to Catawba Falls and Chimney Rock, both great hikes, but our favorite hike was the trail in the neighborhood, we felt like we had our own private waterfall! We even bought a painting at a gallery in Black Mountain that reminded us of the neighborhood! This property is so peaceful and beautiful no one wanted to leave, we would definitely stay here again!

Can't say enough about the incredible view that greeted us as soon as we reached the cabin. It is absolutely beautiful, and the huge windows in the living room were a perfect way to enjoy it. The hot tub overlooking the mountains and the pool table downstairs made it really easy to have a good time without ever leaving the cabin. The kitchen was well-stocked for us to cook there, and the dishwasher made for easy cleanup. Our group was 6 adults and the space felt perfect for that number. It was a short drive to Catawba Falls, which was a beautiful hike that is well worth the time if you stay here. I'll echo what a few others reviews mention, which is that having a vehicle with 4 wheel drive is a MUST. We were originally planning on just trying to get up there in an SUV with front wheel drive and seeing how it went, but thankfully, Mandi at Greybeard talked us out of that. As soon as we got in the community the cabin is in, we realized what a colossal mistake that would have been. Even with the 4 wheel drive truck we ended up renting, those steep gravel switchbacks were a challenge. All that said, the view and the cabin itself were absolutely well worth it. We'd happily stay here again!

Where to begin? This home was better than the photographs. The cabin and the location were picturesque. Kitchen was extremely well-stocked to cook for 6 (with the single caveat that I would bring a chef's knife from home, as theirs was quite dull, but this is a very minor complaint). Bedrooms and living spaces were incredibly cozy for a November stay. And the hot tub? Highlight of the weekend!

Note on 4-wheel drive: this is a requirement, regardless of the weather. Do not attempt without a 4WD vehicle, period. It is *impossible*, and you will ruin your day if you show up without it. I hope I've made myself clear :)

You definitely need 4wd in our opinion - was great to have extra parking at the bottom for guests without 4wd. Rental agency was excellent and always available for our needs!!! Definitely check out the new brewery in old fort- Hillmans. It was a great place!

The home was beautiful and immaculately maintained. The view was breath taking, especially the sunrises. The people I worked with at Greybeards were extremely helpful and professional. Overall we were extremely satisfied and I will be recommending the property to friends.

This place is GORGEOUS! It's incredibly clean, has a beautiful view, and the property managers went way above and beyond to make sure that we had a pleasant stay. We will definitely rent this place again when we come back to NC!

This home is clearly lovingly cared for. Nestled atop Gateway mountain, this home showcases expansive views. We arrived on a day it was SNOWING! We were very glad to have a 4x4, as the climb to the top of the mountain was very steep and winding. Keep in mind if you are visiting in winter! The cabin was nicely outfitted and included everything we needed for a nice weekend away! Everything was super clean and clearly a lot of care is taken to maintain this loving home. We definitely plan on returning and will be recommending to our friends and family for the next trip up!

The cabin was In pristine condition, the views spectacular and the amenities such as the hot tub, hammock, screened porch and grill were excellent. The roads were a concern and although four wheel drive was good we wished we had a vehicle with all terrain tires.

This is our third rental through Greybeard in the last 13 months. Each rental has been a pleasure and handled professionally by Greybeard. All of their staff is the best and their properties are never a disappointment. Above the Clouds was the perfect getaway with fantastic views and very comfortable. Enjoyed fire in the fire place every single night. Liz did a great job making certain the birthday cheesecake, card and balloon were awaiting us just as I had requested. Above the Clouds is a comfortable and relaxing destination and is very private. Did I say \"Fantastic views?\" As recommended, don't rely on GPS to help navigate your way through Gateway Mountain Community. Use the directions provided by Greybeard. They're the best!

FAQs

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Above the Clouds is located in Old Fort. This home is approximately 30 minutes to Black Mountain and Marion, and approximately 45 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance. Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Above the Clouds is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Above the Clouds is located in a gated community. You must go to our Old Fort Office at 243 Catawba Ave S to pick up your gate card. Driving directions to our Old Fort Office, along with access instructions will be sent out via email. Once you have picked up your gate card, you can proceed to the house. Please do not rely on GPS. We will provide you with driving directions to Above the Clouds from our Old Fort Office. 

Above the Clouds has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store.

Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Above the Clouds. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
