Loft Area
1 Bunk Bed
Located in "Heart Ridge Cove" in Burnsville/Mars Hill, the newly constructed Cubs Den Cabin offers 100+ private acres with timber roads throughout and exceptional long-range mountain views from various parts of the cove that includes Mt Mitchell and Craggy Pinnacle Summit. Thoughtfully designed with two primary master bedrooms, a luxury log cabin experience awaits you.

The main floor of the cabin boasts an open-concept kitchen and dining space with a custom-built ”local oak” island and access to a spacious covered deck with 4 log-style rocking chairs to watch the morning fog roll across the cove. A connected gas grill and outdoor fire pit provide opportunities for fellowship whether whipping up dinner or making s'mores. When you're ready to settle in for the evening, the upper level offers a twin-size bunk bed on the loft-style landing at the top of the stairs. Continue to find two primary suites, each with a king-size bed, and an en suite bathroom with a clawfoot soaking tub and walk-in shower.

While private and peaceful, the home is conveniently located within a 13-minute drive of Mars Hill University and its Southern Appalachian Repertory Theater, and it’s within a 15-minute drive of area grocery stores and downtown Burnsville which offers local shops, dining options, and a lively art scene. Catch a play at the historic Parkway Playhouse (open April-December), or check out the renowned Penland School of Craft and its corresponding gallery. Also within a 15-minute drive of the home are the Stables at Bucktown. Located just inside the gatehouse of The Preserve at Wolf Laurel, they offer trail rides, riding lessons, and 30-minute rides in the arena for horse enthusiasts under the age of 7.

Take a 20-minute drive to reach the charming small town of Weaverville, which is home to several notable restaurants like The Twisted Laurel and Stoney Knob Cafe, as well as the "Best Small Town" bakery, Well-Bred. There are also several breweries, green spaces, and festivals to enjoy throughout the year. For outdoor adventure, take a 25-minute drive to Navitat Canopy Adventures in Barnardsville to zipline atop the trees at sunset or under a blanket of stars, or take a 30-minute drive to reach Carolina Hemlocks Recreation Area (on the way to Mount Mitchell Park) which offers great outdoor swimming, tubing, and fishing opportunities.

An hour’s drive South of Cubs Den Cabin will bring you to the iconic Mt. Mitchell peak, aka the highest mountain east of the Mississippi River, and its corresponding State Park—the perfect destination for a daytime adventure! In addition to this famous trek, the Burnsville area is home to a few other great hiking spots. If you’re interested in chasing waterfalls, try the Roaring Fork Creek Falls, a 0.5-mile trail that leads to a stunning 100 ft. cascade and is suitable for all skill levels. If you’re seeking panoramic mountain views, try the moderate Blue Ridge Pinnacle & Rocky Knob trail that winds through a lush forest setting chock full of various regional wildflowers, mushrooms, and birds before bringing you to the pinnacle. If snow is your thing, Cubs Den Cabin is also within a 20-minute drive from Wolf Ridge Ski Resort.

Remember that no trip to the mountains of Western North Carolina is complete without experiencing the “Paris of the South,” Asheville, located just 30 minutes away. While there, be sure to check out the ever-eccentric River Arts District, North Carolina Arboretum, and America’s Largest Home ®, the Biltmore Estate. Asheville is also home to a large number of award-winning restaurants & breweries that you can sample between activities.

Traveling with a larger group? An identical, newly constructed cabin, "Deer Field Cabin," is also available to book! "Heart Ridge Cove" is true to its name; not only is the property line shaped like a heart, set in a private cove, but it has been a project of the heart for the homeowners as they lovingly design a luxury guest experience. We hope you'll "grow with us" in Heart Ridge Cove!

Please Note: This home is NOT pet-friendly. The property is secured by a private electronic gate, and there is an exterior security camera above the parking area. The WIFI speed is 50/60 Mbps, and there is a Mesh WIFI booster that connects to the satellite. The WIFI is best for checking emails and surfing the web. While streaming movies, music, and playing games is possible, the WIFI is limited and service interruptions are likely.

Excellent stay!

My family met my husband and I at the Deerfield and Cub’s Den for a week of relaxation and meals and just hanging out. We enjoyed it so much. Despite the terrible storm that passed thru Asheville and all the devastation we were safe and dry. The cabins were equipped with flashlights and we had gas stoves so we could eat for a couple days just using a lighter to start the cooktop. Each cabin was so well appointed and throughly cared for and very clean. We had no complaints. I brought many things from home to use but when I arrived the cabin had everything we needed. We played games after dinner each night and one evening used the fire pit, what a wonderful experience we enjoyed. The only drawback was the driveway to the Cub’s Den, it is a bit tricky to navigate. You must put your vehicle in low gear (can’t stress that enough) and not be timid about picking up speed to make it to the top. But once there it was worth the efforts. This cabin has the best views. Our favorite aspect of the cabins was without a doubt the grand porches equipped with 4 rocking chairs and a large picnic table. Amazing! It was so quiet, we could hear things in the surroundings I’ve never had opportunity to hear before. My husband even had a small dear approach him without reservation and stand near him for a few minutes checking him out when in the driveway. (I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it myself) We visited Mt Mitchell and Grandfather mountain and explored Asheville a bit while men flyfished nearby streams. They want to return and do it again. For owners: we apologize for not complying with direction for departure. There was no water nor electric so we felt badly about leaving dishes. Please accept our regrets and feel free to reach out to us if necessary. And you were so kind to offer a tour of the property, you have a wonderful estate.

The cabin was outstanding! Everything was modern and clean. The people in charge were friendly and helpful. They were in constant contact with us in case we needed anything. I would come back again and also recommend to a friend. This was our 40th Anniversary gift to ourselves.

We had a great stay at this cabin. Greybeard did an excellent job of communicating before and during our stay. Cabin was spotless, beds were comfortable, and we appreciated the beautiful view and well-equipped kitchen. Did not see any satellite or cable for the TV, but it is a smart TV so remember/bring your logins for your favorite streaming apps. Location is definitely secluded but still close enough to Mars Hill and Weaverville. We enjoyed the Twisted Laurel in Weaverville for dinner one night. Asheville is a bit farther of a drive but still not too bad. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend.

Manager's Response

Andrew, we're glad you had a great stay at Cubs Den Cabin and enjoyed the beautiful views and well-equipped kitchen. We're also delighted to hear that the Greybeard team's excellent communication just enhanced your experience all the more. We appreciate you sharing your valuable feedback with us and future guests, and we look forward to your return!

Cubs Den was just as presented by the pictures and description. Clean, well-organized, great location and quiet. If you enjoy hiking, you can go out the cabin door and find miles of trails (old logging roads) with 500 and 600 ft of elevation, great views, and you will see no other people.

Manager's Response

James, it's wonderful to hear that you had a spectacular Christmas getaway at Cubs Den Cabin and enjoyed the quiet mountain setting. We appreciate you sharing your experience with us and fellow travelers considering this home for their vacation, and we look forward to helping you plan your next trip to the mountains soon!

Kiki did an amazing job cleaning the home we rented for 4 day 3 night stay. It was beautiful inside and out, it made the stay even more remarkable watching it snow. Wild life was absolutely breathtaking. I would definitely recommend.

Upscale Cabin Experience

We stayed at the Cubs Den cabin. This cabin was absolutely a hidden gem. It is new construction and decorated elegantly, not your usual rental furniture but rather very fine and also comfortable furniture. We stay at a lot of AirBnB and the like and we know good places when we see them. This is one of them. The pictures don't do justice to the overall experience you will have when you walk in and smell the fresh cedar wood interior. We saw deer and turkeys every day and that was a delight. We used the fire pit, with the provided cut wood, every night for smore's and were able to immerse in the night since there are only 2 cabins in this property. The property is secure by a gate even though there are only 2 cabins. The cabin is very private and you don't see the second cabin. The rocking chairs on the deck were lovely for morning coffee and to greet the fresh air. The kitchen had everything we needed and beyond. The indoor fireplace was easy to use with one push button (we are from Florida so easy to operate fireplaces are a big deal to us). The entire cabin has many unique decorative accessories that look like custom made (I won't spoil it for you). The check-in process was very straightforward with digital codes provided to us in advance. We did not have any issues so we did not have the need to test their customer service response. The cabin was very clean, a better description would be spotless. The beds were very comfortable with very nice high end pillows. Easy access from the road for any weather. The cabin is close to downtown Burnsville (about 10 minutes), which has charming shops and restaurants. We loved the Pacifico Seafood & Grill, which is Mexican but also has many other great American dishes. They also have Pits and Grits for the BBQ lovers. Snap Dragons was good too. We were not disappointed. Oh, and don't forget the Homeplace Brewery, which when we visited had live music Thursday-Saturday. There are also couple of grocery stores (Ingles, which is a little more expensive and Fred's - and you can grill at the cabin since it has a gas grill). It was a very fun town, great for stopping for food after a long day exploring the woods and waterfalls and on the way to the cabin. In terms of waterfalls, visit the Setrock Creek Falls Trail, this was our favorite and super beautiful and peaceful. Bring a sub from the Subway shop near downtown Burnsville, on the way to the waterfall. There were other waterfalls in the area, you can stop at the visitor's center in downtown Burnsville and they will give you maps and tons of options in the area. We also went to Little Switzerland and stopped at the Little Switzerland Inn and had gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge mountains and you can have have lunch there and a beer or ice cream in their rocking chairs overlooking the panorama. Overall this was an amazing experience and highly recommend it. We are world travelers and we were very impressed with this majestic cabin. We can't wait to go back in the fall to see the colors.

Manager's Response

Jerry, it sounds like you had an incredible and memorable experience at the Cubs Den cabin! We're delighted that you enjoyed the cabin's beautiful decor, comfortable amenities, and natural surroundings and that the wildlife sightings added to the overall charm of your stay. We're also happy to hear that you had the opportunity to explore the shops, restaurants, and breweries in downtown Burnsville, and we appreciate you sharing activity recommendations for fellow travelers considering a visit to the area. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful review with us; we look forward to welcoming you back to the mountains again very soon to see the stunning fall color!
