Take in the Blue Ridge Mountains and Swannanoa Valley from inside the house with the expansive windows, or on the double-layer back decks. Full of light and immaculately cleaned, this home is just what you need for the perfect getaway. With sleeping spaces with queen beds on both levels, this home is perfect for two couples looking to adventure in the Asheville area, while still having some space to themselves.

Venture down the spiral staircase to the lower level - where you'll find a custom wine-tasting room that will leave you feeling transported to a cellar in Tuscany. Gather your group for your private tasting, uncorking a bottle of your favorite wine brought from home, or your new favorite selected from one of our local wineries. Try a bottle of "Circles" from Pleb Urban Winery in the River Arts District, a pinot gris and sauvignon blanc blend with its distinct notes of tropical punch Now and Laters, on the decks as you watch the sunset.

Or perhaps, sip a classic Merlot from the Biltmore Winery in front of the roaring gas fireplace in the main living room. Prepare your meals in the gourmet kitchen with sparkling granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, a gas range, double ovens, and well-stocked cabinets. On your first night unpack takeout from Sake Sushi in the Village of Cheshire and dig into a bowl of buckwheat soba, a sweetheart roll, and a hibachi dish as you relish in your time together. After dinner, spend some time soaking in the 4-seater hot tub on the lower deck as the sun sets over the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance.

Merely five minutes from downtown Black Mountain and the interstate, this home has an amazing location. Spend some time enjoying all of what Black Mountain has to offer. Start your morning off right with breakfast at Louise's Kitchen - try their thick-cut challah French Toast or Smoked Pork Quesadillas on the porch of a Victorian home. Browse the plethora of antique shops, locally curated staples, and clothing stores that line the streets of downtown. Pick up a sweet treat at The Hop or Kilwin's as you wander leisurely through town.

House Layout:
Main Floor- Living room with gas logs, dining seats 8; great kitchen with gas cooktop; a full hall bath; a bedroom with a queen bed, an enclosed sun porch with a futon; deck with gas grill.
Downstairs- a bedroom with a queen bed; a full hall bath; a den with a twin pullout chair, gas logs, and large screen TV; deck with hot tub; wine "tasting" room.

Please note: No pets and no smoking on the property. This home has a bear deterrent system that is similar to a motion-sensor light. The system uses a faux dog bark to scare away bears when they approach the house, and guests may hear this sound upon arrival. The jukebox in the lower level den is not functional.

Just what we wanted

Very nice house at the very top of the hill Secluded and private. Private gate to driveway. So cool. Just what we wanted. Great view of the mountains across the way. Hot tub was nice. House could use some modern decor but very clean. Lots of variety of kitchen supplies. Bottle of wine was nice touch and we actually replaced with another. Cons were only a few Wasps nest inside grill couldn’t use. I’m very sensitive to wasps. Water pressure not great and hot water was not existent in shower upstairs. Burner on right front stove was difficult to turn on. Beds were a little small. I would bring my own pillow next time too. 20 minutes from Asheville. Black mountain is nice little quaint town too with plenty of food options. Grocery store 5 minutes from house. We will be coming back here again but I would like to see a little more updating with bedding and decor Summarizing location was perfect. Privacy perfect. For the money I would have liked to use the grill and had a more comfy bed and hot water upstairs. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed.

Beautiful Mountain View

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Winterpast. The home is so unique, and has so much charm. The home owner is a Doctor originally from Michigan, so we felt an instant connection also being from the Wolverine State. Positives: The view is breathtaking from the upper deck The wine cellar on the bottom floor was so unique Huge library of books on the bottom floor Privacy, you're literally the last home at the top of the hill Hot tub...my daughter was in it every night The three seasons room is nice when it rains fully stocked kitchen...you could bake for days Proximity to Ingles and downtown Black Mountain Negatives The house is at the top of a mountain, so the road is built for one compact car. If you meet another car on the hill, it can be nerve wracking Treadmill in the basement, which was nice, but the belt was slipping so you couldn't jog or run, you could only walk. Jukebox on the bottom floor was really neat, but we tried to get it to play multiple times, even looked up directions online, and it wouldn't play. The ceramic grill is super nice, but it's a $6500 grill, and in the directions on how to use it, the directions tell you if it gets wet or you overheat the grill you could crack a tile, and the grill is super expensive. While we used it once, and enjoyed the result, I'd rather have a good ol webber and not worry that I may damage a tile and be on the hook for a $6500 grill. I would highly suggest staying here, and you'll love the charm, but there are some high end amenities that probably could only be for homeowner and not guests. If you want a relaxing stay with a beautiful view, this is your place.

The house was gorgeous with spectacular views. Having a treadmill was very nice since it's hard to walk around here with the terrain and bears. We used the hot tub a couple times - very nice. Good instructions about it. Black Mountain is a lovely little town where we enjoyed some of the restaurants (Black Mountain Bistro, My Father's Pizza, Veranda). Enjoyed a walk around Tomahawk Lake. Good instructions about what would be provided, keyless entry, check out procedure, etc. We also went to the N.C. Arboretum, Historic Biltmore Village and took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Craggy Gardens and back.

We loved the privacy of staying in a rental house. Winterpast was clean and welcoming when we arrived. It is a beautiful home with a stunning view of the mountains! We appreciated the amenities provided - towels, wash cloths, etc. so we didn't have to travel a distance with those additional things. We also enjoyed using the kitchen to fix a few meals. The selection of games and books made our evenings fun, too.

I can't imagine staying anywhere else and will definitely return! The views were incredible. The house was clean and comfortable. When we had questions - the staff at Greybeard was responsive and so friendly. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us!

My husband and I needed a place to rest our souls after a particularly stressful season. This home provided an opportunity to take a deep breath, look at God's creation, and remember what is most important in life. The hot tub was also a wonderful way to soak away some tension.

The Winterpast home is very well represented with the online virtual tour. It was remote enough to enjoy a quiet week away with gorgeous mountain views unobstructed by buildings and relax, but also close enough to downtown Asheville to go explore. There's a grocery store, gas, starbucks, all very close to this location at the bottom of the hill. We were able to enjoy use of the grill and outdoor hot tub. In addition to the mountain views, we pretty regularly saw a mamma black bear and her two cubs travelling up and down the hill (from a safe distance in our vehicle).
We appreciated the ease of check in and check out with the keyless entry. Greybeard was very considerate and quick with any rental emergencies or concerns. Additionally the add on options are worth their expense, the couples massage is actually a steal. Best spa experience and I would expect to pay that amount for one person let alone two!

Beautiful, private retreat with an amazing view! Photos do not do the property justice. Long-range mountain views. Complete privacy on the top of the mountain.We saw beautiful sunsets and watched summer storms come rolling in. Well-designed, gourmet kitchen. The house was incredibly clean and very well-maintained. We brought our very well-behaved four-year-old and all three of us loved the house. One caveat, we brought a small blowup mattress for her to sleep on in our room. The two bedrooms that are available are not on the same floor. Overall this is an amazing house and we would love to stay here again.

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Winterpast is located in Black Mountain. This home is approximately a 10-minute drive to Black Mountain and approximately a 25-minute drive to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

This property offers a flexible cancellation policy that differs from the standard cancellation policy. The policy for this home is the moderate policy. The terms of the policy are as stated: Bookings canceled at least 30 days before the start of the stay will receive 100% refund. Bookings canceled at least 14 days before the start of the stay will receive 50% refund.

WHEN IS THE SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDED?

Security deposits are returned within 30 days of guest departure.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Winterpast is not “pet friendly.” Please be respectful of those owners who, because of allergies or other personal reasons, have chosen not to allow any pets. If housekeeping notes that a pet was present on a non-pet friendly property during your visit, you will be charged a minimum of $600 to clean carpets, upholstered furniture and complete air purification measures. Bringing a pet to a house that is not pet-friendly without owner consent or permission from Greybeard is grounds for termination of the rental agreement without refund. If you must travel with your pet, please contact us for local boarding recommendations. More info about service animals and the ADA is available here.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival.

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

Winterpast has a keyless entry system. You will receive a unique access code within 3 days of your arrival, allowing you to go straight to the house and check-in starting at 4pm. 

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and select option 1, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN ARE HOMES WITH GAS LOGS IN OPERATION?

Gas logs are not in operation May through September due to the warmer summer months. 

IS THERE AN OUTDOOR FIRE PIT? 

This home does not provide an outdoor fire pit. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit, and you cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Winterpast. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
