Built in 2008, this two-story home has wonderful views of Black Mountain and Montreat. The top floor has a primary suite with a king bed and full bath and a spacious great room with a gas fireplace, kitchen & dining areas. The great room opens to a large screened porch, perfect for viewing, rocking, and outdoor eating. The patio just outside the screened porch has a gas grill. The lower level of Massey Cottage has a full bath and a half bath, a laundry room, and three bedrooms---one with a queen & two with two twins each. For additional sleeping accommodations, there is a double sleeper sofa in the great room. All bedrooms have a full view of the valley. The home offers all the modern amenities, including A/C, dishwasher, washer & dryer, DVD player, and wireless internet access.

NOTE from The Massey's regarding the driveway: The split driveway is steep but accommodates parking for 3-4 cars just outside the entry doors It has two turns, and for those not used to making sharp turns on a steep hill, this tip may be helpful: Do not turn into the curve too soon; instead, when approaching the turn, swing out a little and go along the farther (and longer) edge of the curve. At our driveway, this means keeping close to the line of pines at the street entry and close to the upper bank at the second entry. Likewise, stay close to both when exiting. This has worked for the ordinary sedans that we drive.

This house does not provide sheets and towels but they can be rented from Greybeard Rentals.

We love Massey Cottage! We have stayed there the past 3 years for MYC and it is always in pristine condition. It’s the perfect house for our group. Only downside is the gnarly driveway!

The house, view and location were all great. Perfect for my family of 6. The driveway is a challenge of course, especially for a suburban.

The views at Massey were absolutely AMAZING! We had some cold mornings during our stay, and couldn't sit on the porch. The views from inside the den area made it absolutely okay that we couldn't sit on the porch at times. The driveway is STEEP!! It's a shared driveway. The first turn up is steep, but the turn in to Massey is steeper - the photos don't really depict the steepness of the driveway. It was intimidating at first, but we conquered that driveway the first day. Only complaints would be the sleeper sofa and smaller chairs in the den area for sitting. The sofa cushions do sink into the frame. The smaller chairs aren't great for older people with back and/or knee issues. It would be nice to have a few more rockers on the screened in porch, too. We loved having the table on the porch. We played a lot of cards out there. We had a few spiders (one very large) in the doorways that we had to tend to, the ladybugs were in full force, and the stinkbugs invaded - but we were in the mountains and just rolled with it lol. We've been coming to Montreat for many years/decades, and we know that nature is a part of visiting Montreat. The kitchen was fully stocked, and easy to find needed items. We cook a lot while in Montreat, and it was great to find a fully stocked kitchen! The views, rest and relaxation, and time in Montreat were the reason we chose Massey, and we would stay here again in the fall with no question.

The house was nice and clean. It had basically all the utensils needed to prepare our meals. The location was nice. We enjoyed ourselves.

We enjoyed everything about our stay! The screen porch with rocking chairs and a full dinner table was bliss!! Everything was immaculately clean. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking meals. And Montreat is a magical place for young and old.

We had a great experience! House was just as described and depicted in photos. Perfect for our youth group attending Montreat Youth conference. Kitchen was well stocked and open floor plan upstairs made cooking for a group enjoyable! Views were amazing! Driveway was steep, but we followed the directions about turning in from the owners and made it up and down all week with a passenger van and Mazda 5 (we are from Florida, so the fact that we navigated the drive so easily was noteworthy!)
House was very clean and comfortable. Back porch was amazing! We'd definitely stay here again, but our group will be bigger next year, so we've had to go with another house.

We love the layout and location of the Massey house. Please consider changing the furniture in the living area - it is not very comfortable. It really needs a full size couch and some comfortable chairs/rockers/recliners. Also, the mattresses are a little firm.

Finding the perfect rental for extended family, so that everyone has space, is difficult. This house was perfect! It was clean, well kept, and had views were truly amazing - especially the screened in porch. Initially, I was worried about the steepness of the driveway, but that turned out to be a non-issue. The driveway was easily maneuverable, but there was also ample parking at the bottom of the driveway. At a couple of the functions that we hosted, I overheard other family members talking about how they could steal it away from us at the next reunion. The house was great, and I will definitely rent it again in the near future, and recommend it to others!

Greybeard always does a great job. The driveway to Massey cottage is daunting so arrive in daylight and take your time navigating the steep incline.

FAQs

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Massey Cottage is located in Montreat. This home is approximately 10 minutes to Black Mountain and 30 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance . Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Massey Cottage is not “pet friendly”. Please be respectful of those owners who, because of allergies or other personal reasons, have chosen not to allow any pets. If housekeeping notes that a pet was present on a non-pet friendly property during your visit, you will be charged a minimum of $600 to clean carpets, upholstered furniture and complete air purification measures. Bringing a pet to a house that is not pet-friendly without owner consent or permission from Greybeard is grounds for termination of the rental agreement without refund. If you must travel with your pet, please contact us for local boarding recommendations. More info about service animals and the ADA is available here.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival. Early check-in is not available during the summer conference season. 

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

You will pick up keys from our Black Mountain office, located at 204 East State Street. Keys will be available starting at 4:00 pm. If you are arriving after hours, you will receive instructions on how to access the safe on our front porch. There will be an envelope with your name and house name at the top. Your keys and driving directions will be inside the envelope.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WILL THERE BE FIREWOOD AT THE HOUSE?

Firewood is not supplied by Greybeard. Some houses will have a small supply of firewood for renter use; however, it is best to purchase your own small bundle of wood or Duraflame pressed logs at the local grocery store. Cutting branches, limbs or trees on the property is strictly prohibited. You can use limbs found on the ground. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Massey Cottage. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
