With 3 bedrooms on the main level, including a primary suite with a king-size bed and two queen-size beds, and 3 baths to accommodate up to 6 people comfortably, easy accessibility is yet another wonderful feature of this opulent home. Play-for-keeps in the upper-level bonus room with a game table or lounge on the Cleopatra sofa overlooking the lake. 

Located just 50 minutes from Asheville in Nebo, this posh lakeside home is the perfect place to get away and enjoy everything the Lake James area has to offer. Ideally located near Lake James State Park, you can spend your days exploring nearby hiking trails like the Fonta Flora Loop, Overmountain Victory, or the Holly Discovery (complete with child-friendly activities). If you don’t mind a bit of a drive, you can visit another state park nearby, South Mountains, for a more challenging hike like Chestnut Knob or a beautiful waterfall hike like High Shoal Falls before grabbing a refreshing craft beer at Fonta Flora’s open-air brewery at Whippoorwill Farm a mere 12 minutes from the home. Also located in Nebo is the award-winning South Creek Winery which welcomes pets and hosts numerous events throughout the year.

Take a scenic 15-minute drive to reach the quaint small town of Marion where you can grab another cold one at Mica Town Brewing Company, fresh seafood & cocktails at Crabby Abby’s Bar and Grille, or a handcrafted dish paired with the NC staple, Cheerwine, at McDowell Local. Before returning to your home away from home, shop around at the Lake James Antique Mall, or take another 35-minute drive to the “Simply Charming” town of Morganton where you can find even more shops, regional museums, and art galleries where you can pick up a souvenir to remind you of your time in the mountains. You’ll also find even more delicious dining and drink options in Morganton like Root and Vine, Treat, Catawba Brewing Company, and the original Fonta Flora taproom. 

Please note: This home has 10 exterior security cameras surrounding the property, one of which faces the hot tub and one of which is in the garage. This home is pet-friendly, but only dogs over 2 years old will be accepted. There is a maximum of 2 dogs, and no "visiting" dogs are permitted. This home is NOT recommended for people with pet allergies. The black recliner pictured in the main living area is no longer at the home.  

While the home offers gorgeous lake views, it is technically not "lakefront," as it's situated on a large hill that is across the road from the public Black Bear Boat Ramp & lake access point (6114 Lake James Rd). The home also does NOT have its own private boat dock, but you are welcome to rent a boat through Bear Creek Marina (1.1 miles away) or Lake James Neighborhood Store (8.1 miles away) during your stay.

This home was brilliantly set up for comfort, recreation, cooking, water activities and relaxation. We loved the home entertainment music options available both inside and outside (plus fire pit rock speakers), governed by an easy to use ipad (music quality was fantastic!). The outdoor tv was super fun to watch after dark overlooking the lake under a full moon. Hotub was great. Lake and sky views were perfect. Amenities were super easy to navigate with the directions provided. Soooo quiet at night. Lot's of stars to see. Paddle boarding (& public boat) access directly across from the gated driveway. Tarheel Fans will enjoy the office memoribilia (great touch!). We'll definitely book this diamond on Lake James again. It would be amazing all year round (fireplace & large dinning room table). We loved playing Galaga in the upstairs game room (awesome view from there too). Would love to return.

Great long weekend

The house was immaculate and clean. We enjoyed mornings on the screened porch and evenings out front with views of the lake. The home came with detailed instructions of the speaker system which was great! Pay attention to local restaurant hours. Most are open in the summer Thursday to Sunday. Would rent again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the lake and town of Marion. Restaurants and grocery stores are close and within a short drive from the house. This truly is a beautiful part of our country. The property was perfect for our dog, who appreciated the backyard for play and other important business. The home is well appointed and very comfortable. All the electronics worked, and we found the house clean and prepared for our arrival. We certainly would consider another rental of this property.

Wonderful vacation home

My wife and our two dogs just spent a relaxing week at the Lake James Escape. The home is very well appointed and has beautiful views of the lake from the front of the home and of the mountains from the rear screened in porch. The jacuzzi is a welcomed place to relax after a day of activities. It was unusually hot the week we vacationed at Lake James and my wife and I were grateful for the powerful and quickly cooling central air conditioning. We also both had to work while away and the Internet can handle zoom calls and streaming your favorite shows. We enjoyed going into Marion several evenings for dinner. We particularly liked McDowells and there are several other very nice selections. We also ate one evening at the marina almost directly across from the Home's driveway. The food is average bar food, but the views of Lake James were beautiful. When you come out of the driveway and make a left and drive about a quarter mile there were two excellent places to hike on what appears to be old logging roads . Also, about a 15 minute drive from the house you come to Lake James State Park, which also has some very nice hiking trails and a nice beach. If you have a boat, which we do not, there is a almost marina directly across from the Home. Finally, it was great to have a fenced in yard to let our dogs into. All in all it was a tremendous trip and we highly recommend this home.
