Known as the world’s largest annual international team competition in women’s sport, the Billie Jean King Cup (formally known as Fed Cup) has approximately 100 nations that take part each year. In 2022, the competing teams will be the USA vs Ukraine. The Qualifier is a best-of-five match series that begins Friday, April 15, 2022 with two singles matches. Two reverse singles matches and the doubles match will follow on Saturday, April 16, 2022. Matches will be played on a temporary indoor hard court, and the winner will advance to the 2022 Finals in November at a location to be determined.
Since the Billie Jean King Cup is returning to Asheville for a third time, the USTA is looking to infuse the local community like never before. Artists, school groups, and teams will be creating racquet artwork with the spirit of Asheville and tennis to serve as an iconic visual to commemorate the return of Team USA to Asheville, NC. The racquets will be displayed as a “Parade of Racquets” at the Harrah‘s Cherokee Center and in other facilities throughout the community in the 45 days prior to the event. The artwork will be auctioned off onsite at the event in April, with proceeds benefiting the Ashville Tennis Association’s youth outreach programs.
