While Asheville has developed quite the reputation as a craft brewery/beer mecca, it is quietly establishing itself as a go-to spot for Mexican restaurants as well. From upscale to grab-n-go, the variety of Mexican food offered provides Asheville residents and visitors alike a broad selection of dining options.
Salsa's Mexican Caribbean Restaurant
If you want a more upscale dining experience, head out to Salsa’s Mexican Caribbean Restaurant at 6 Patton Ave. This Asheville favorite has been around for more than 20 years and specializes in unique flavors from Mexico and the Caribbean.
Limones Restaurant
Another local option for fine Mexican dining is Limones Restaurant, located at 13 Eagle Street, just around the corner form the fine arts theatre. Smoky Mountain Living summed up their fare this way: “An all-together different world of Mexican cuisine. This is the real thing: traditional dishes enlivened with a modern sensibility.” Both of these restaurants are easily accessible and have varied, fresh items with an uptown twist to them.
Cantina
For convenience and flavor, it’s hard to pass up Cantina. Located at 10 Biltmore Plaza in historic Biltmore Village, this locally-owned restaurant and bar offers fresh Mexican fare and more than 50 tequilas. They have the capacity to welcome larger groups as well as the opportunity for more intimate dinners.
Mamacita's Grill
Another locally-owned favorite is Mamacita’s Grill at 77A Biltmore Ave. Situated next to the Orange Peel and Wicked Weed Brewery, this independent restaurant serves up freshly-made Mexican cuisine in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. There’s truly something fresh for anyone in your group at either of these locales.
White Duck Taco Shop
In a rush or hoping to eat-and-go? Consider White Duck Taco Shop. This inexpensive option offers unique flavors such as Bangkok shrimp tacos or a basic steak and cheese taco among their numerous offerings. With two locations, one in the River Arts District and one on Broadway/Biltmore, White Duck is a great option for the family or group on-the-go who want tasty, original tacos and want to head out to explore more of Asheville.
