This Montreat cottage has all the modern conveniences including internet, cable TV, dishwasher and central A/C. You can spend time rocking on the front porch or enjoy the cool Montreat nights on the screened-in back porch. HOUSE LAYOUT: Main floor: living room, 1/2 bath, kitchen, sunroom(turned into a bedroom with a double bed), master bedroom with king & twin daybed and full bath. Upstairs: bedroom with queen and twin, full bath, bedroom with a double and a queen bed, full bath. Easy flat parking for 3-4 cars. Linens (sheets and towels) are available for an additional fee. This home is pet friendly, with a small fenced backyard, with an additional pet fee. From mid-January to mid-May, this home will rent monthly. The house layout fits our family's needs. It was very clean. The street is quiet. Saw more wildlife than cars in the street. Have stayed here multiple years and plan to come back again.

The house was beautiful with four bedrooms and 3.5 bedrooms. We ate most of our meals in the screened porch with comfortable patio furniture. Also had a formal dining room table. Loved the front porch full of rocking chairs! This house was an important part of our family vacation. Staff at Greybeard was very helpful,courteous and prompt. Check-in was easy.

The staff was great, our original rental in Gatlinburg had been damaged in the fires and we needed a last minute save. SaraKen has every thing you need to enjoy your stay. Hiking around Montreat was amazing! The retail area around Black Mountain was fun to visit as well. We were able to make day trips to Chimney Rock and to Jonas Ridge Snow Tubing, (A lot of Fun). I would recommend this cabin to anyone wanting a relaxing slow paced getaway.

This is my favorite home to stay in when in the Montreat/Black Mountain area. I hope not too many people stay in it (selfishly), so it will continue to be in the great shape it's in!

The ONLY feedback I would give that isn't 100% positive I should have given to the cleaning company, which is that pillows and blankets were stuffed in closets. I rearranged them. Other things like that were stuffed in closets and drawers too and I put them away. I like things neat, folded and in their right places. But that's the cleaners' job; not fault of the owners or the rental co.

The SaraKen House

This is our fourth year renting the SaraKen House located in Montreat. The house is much bigger than we need but has all the main conveniences including a screened back porch, gas fireplace & grill, and wireless internet access. A big bonus - lots of wildlife in the back yard. We saw many deer on several occasions plus rabbits and chipmunks. It's close to the town of Black Mountain and close to some very good hiking trails. Asheville is only 15 minutes away. This place has it all.

Surprisingly good house for Montreat Youth Conference

This house is great for a first time Youth Conference group. Large enough so no one feels cramped, but small enough for a group who is still trying to figure out this whole \"MYC thing.\"

We loved being in Montreat. The house was sufficient,although there was no soap at all in the house when we arrived, so had to be content with rinsing off until we could go to a store.
There is only one lamp in the living room.
We couldn't get the fireplace to work.
We loved the front porch and rockers.
The rental linens were fine, but the bed coverlets in the house were really poor.

FAQs

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus a $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance . Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

SaraKen is specified as "pet friendly" and dogs are allowed. Unfortunately, due to common allergy problems we cannot allow cats. For the privilege of bringing your dog, there is a minimum charge of $100 nonrefundable fee per pet. A maximum of two dogs are allowed unless you have received special permission from the property manager or homeowner. Any damage that may be caused by your pet during your stay will be paid for out of your security deposit or charged to the credit card we have on file. There is a county-wide leash law in place. When taking your dog outside of a gated area, please ensure that they are on a leash. 

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival. Early check-in is not available during the summer conference season. 

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

You will pick up keys from our Black Mountain office, located at 204 East State Street. Keys will be available starting at 4:00 pm. If you are arriving after hours, you will receive instructions on how to access the safe on our front porch. There will be an envelope with your name and house name at the top. Your keys and driving directions will be inside the envelope.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

WHEN ARE HOMES WITH GAS LOGS IN OPERATION?

SaraKen has a gas logs fireplace for guests to use. Gas logs are not in operation May through September due to the warmer summer months. 

Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit, which is not provided at SaraKen. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at SaraKen. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
