Luxury abounds from the moment you enter Monkey Boat on Lake James. Floor-to-ceiling windows illuminate the open-concept kitchen, dining, and living room. The primary bedroom, located on the main floor, features a king-size bed, a television with streaming, and an en suite bathroom with double vanity, a soaking tub, and a walk-in shower. A split floor plan allows for maximum privacy and space with two additional bedrooms on the main floor, each with a queen-sized bed, connected by a spacious Jack-and-Jill style bathroom with a bathtub and shower. The main deck offers covered dining space with a gas grill, lounge chairs for catching rays, and a fully enclosed screened-in porch with cozy couch-style seating.

The lower level of the home doubles the fun and entertainment! Lounge in the spacious second living room or play a favorite game; a table for 4 provides the perfect spot for a game of cards. The bunk room offers two sets of twin bunk beds, a foosball table, a mini-split, and a seating area. Also on the lower level is a second bedroom with a king-size bed and a full bathroom with hallway access. Step outside to a lower-level patio with ample options for seating and entertainment: the hot tub, a porch swing, a picnic table, and a hammock await you. Monkey Boat also boasts a private dock with an available boat slip, paddleboards, and a canoe available for guest use!

Located just 45 minutes from Asheville in Nebo, this upscale lakefront home is the perfect place to get away and enjoy everything the Lake James area has to offer. Spend your days exploring nearby hiking trails like the Fonta Flora Loop in Lake James State Park or High Shoal Falls in South Mountains State Park before grabbing a refreshing craft beer at Fonta Flora’s open-air brewery at Whippoorwill Farm approximately 10 minutes away. Take a short 15-minute drive to reach downtown Marion where you can spend your afternoon exploring the new 310 District, an indoor shopping space that’s home to Toonez Chop House, Chances of Sprinkles Bakery, and several retail shops. For dinner, head to J. Hartman’s for fresh seafood and a cocktail, or McDowell Local for a handcrafted dish paired with the NC staple, Cheerwine.

For view chasers, this home is about an hour's drive from the “gorge”-ous Linville Gorge Wilderness area and iconic Blue Ridge Parkway, which offers plenty of overlooks and hiking opportunities to choose from. Don’t forget that no trip to the mountains of Western North Carolina is complete without experiencing the “Land of Sky,” Asheville. While there, be sure to check out the hip and artsy West Asheville district, North Carolina Arboretum, and iconic Biltmore Estate. Asheville is also home to an impressive number of award-winning restaurants and breweries that you can sample in between all your activities. You’re also sure to find a souvenir to remind you of your time by the lake in the mountains at one of the unique boutiques or novelty shops!

Please note: There is one paddleboard and three kayaks available for guest use. There are 65 steps down to the private dock. This home is located within the Arbor subdivision of Lake James and offers exclusive access to community amenities that include a covered pavilion area with a wood-burning fireplace and several park-style grills. If bringing a boat trailer, please ensure it is parked in the driveway only and not on the road or on the mulch areas. This house was amazing! It had everything we needed and more. Plenty of space for multiple families. Adults and kids will be happy here. Hot tub was clean and had an amazing view. We enjoyed using the kayaks and life vests and fire pit. House was as also very clean and well maintained. The nicest vacation house we’ve rented!

Holiday Retreat

What an enjoyable time we had at this lovely home. We gathered with family and took advantage of the wood-burning fireplace inside and spent time making smores at the fire pit outside. The kitchen was well stocked, beds slept well and the furnishings were comfortable for relaxing and spending time together. The area is lovely; situated on Lake James with easy access to the state park and a local brewery. We saw wildlife (deer & wild turkeys) and enjoyed the views of mountains & the lake. Convenient to Asheville, this home is ideal for a mountain getaway.

My wife and I rented this house with 2 other couples and we all had a blast. Loved the gated community, house, furnishings, layout, screened in porch with fireplace, kitchen appliances/etc. Location is beautiful especially if enjoy nearby Lake James State Park for hiking. We visited in the Fall so wasn’t a warm weather/lake trip but I’m sure that would be a fun time to visit. The primary suite bathroom shower was oddly small but not a big deal. Also, feel like a wardrobe cabinet or something should be provided since the walk in closet was locked (appeared to be owner’s closet). Grill was in good shape and had extra propane tank. Drive into Asheville each of two days which was doable.

Clean house, nice floor plan. Well-appointed kitchen. We enjoyed the hot tub! Master bed and rear guest bed on first floor need new mattresses...too firm and master bed is raised in middle. Dock needs attention...there are a few boards loose and secure cleats should be added to tie off watercrafts. Walk to dock was a bit of a challenge, esp. when carry gear to and from boat. We enjoyed our stay at the Monkey Boat.

First-this house is HUGE. Our family of 5 stayed-twin boys 16, daughter 19 and mom and dad. Having the covered grill was lovely as it often rained daily in the late afternoon into dinner time. The beds were fantastic and mattresses were great. Every room had a wonderful ceiling fan that made no noise! The bedrooms were spacious. The house was immaculate! I would definitely stay there again Lake James neighborhood store we’re great on the pontoon boat rental also Fishing is challenging but our son caught a 21 in catfish off the dock!

We had a great time at Monkey Paw, this home offered a little bit of everything including multiple fireplaces/pits, multiple gathering places, a hot tub, and a boat house loaded with water activity-related items, etc. Management was very easy to work with and had great communication.

Excellent, well stocked lake house

Overall

Perfect house for a weekend at the lake. Kitchen was very well stocked, and home was very comfortable for two families. Town and a grocery store are only 10 minutes away. The walk down to the lake from the house is a bit steep, but is doable. We would absolutely come back, hopefully when the weather is better so we can really enjoy!
