Constructed in 1929, this spacious and historic Montreat home includes an adjacent cottage that accommodates a total of 19 people. It has a large covered porch with rocking chairs and a ping-pong table. The small cabin is just a few steps next door. It also has a level drive with parking for up to four cars. Located in Montreat, a short walk behind Gaither Chapel, the walk is steep but short. In addition to this walk, there are miles of hiking and biking trails just a short walk from this house. You are just a short drive to Black Mountain where you can get dinner or groceries, and 20 mins from Asheville and the Biltmore Estate.

MAIN HOUSE LAYOUT:
Main floor: Kitchen, living room, sitting room, dining room, bedroom with queen and twin & full bath (you must pass through this room to get to the bathroom.)
Upstairs: Bedroom with a queen bed and twin bed. Jack-and-Jill full bath connects to 3rd bedroom with queen bed and twin bed. The fourth bedroom has a single twin. Hall half bath. The fifth bedroom has one queen bed, a youth-size twin bed, and a Jack-and-Jill full bath shared with the sixth bedroom which has four twin beds.
SMALL COTTAGE LAYOUT: Kitchen, bedroom with three twins, full bath, second bedroom with queen. Level drive with parking for four cars.

PLEASE NOTE: Guests will need to bring their own sheets and towels or rent the package from GreyBeard. THE FIREPLACE IS NOT USABLE.

This house is exactly what we need for our group. Lots of beds, lots of bathrooms even a renovated master bath! We love having lots of space and air conditioning! Greybeard is so easy to work with. One small word of advice: do NOT put your trash in the bear proof trash. Those bears are smart and know how to open it. Save yourself some clean up and take all trash to the dumpster at Greybeard.

We really enjoyed our experience with the Braeburn House and Cottage. The only issues we had, which kept this review from being excellent, were: the stove/oven being an older electric appliance, which did not seem to heat to higher temperatures and has a heat leak through the back right burner; and drive way has a step end and the is primarily loose gravel. I would not recommend trying to use one end of the drive way if you do not have 4WD. Other than that, we found the house to be spacious and cozy. We particularly enjoyed many of the decorations and family pictures. I would recommend this house to others.

After our original rental fell through, we were thankfully able to get this property for a week. We loved the shared space and the bedrooms were able to accommodate us very comfortably. The hike up the hill wasn't always easy, but it made us stronger. Our group had a wonderful time and can't wait to return next year!

NIce house, steep hill

This was our 3rd year staying at Braeburn House. Our youth group loves this house but don't like the steep hill to get to it. The adults would appreciate having Wifi so they could chaperone and work during their free time, but the youth don't seem to mind. All of the bedrooms have fans to help stay cool since there is no AC, but the living room and kitchen get pretty hot especially during the day when everyone is gathered together so bringing a couple extra fans along may be a good idea. All in all though it is a great house on a quiet street and I would recommend to anyone with a large group.

Braeburn House represents the charm and simplicity of old Montreat homes and cottages. The spacious sitting room and the side porch of the main house both provided comfortable spaces for our group to gather and share reflections from our time at Montreat. During our week we enjoyed being close to the conference center facilities but felt removed enough from the hub of activity to have a sense of seclusion.

WHERE IS THIS HOUSE LOCATED?

Braeburn House & Guest Cottage is located in Montreat. This home is approximately 10 minutes to Black Mountain and 30 minutes to Asheville. Click on the location tab above to locate this house on a map.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND/CANCELLATION POLICY?

If you need to cancel your reservation and the property you had reserved re-rents for the time which you had it reserved, you will be refunded all money you had paid minus an $89 cancellation fee. If you cancel and the property does not re-rent for your reserved dates, you will lose all money you have paid to that point. For this reason, we recommend that you purchase trip insurance . Please call 888-228-8008 before making a reservation if you have questions or concerns.

WHAT IS YOUR PET POLICY AND FEE?

Braeburn is not “pet friendly”. Please be respectful of those owners who, because of allergies or other personal reasons, have chosen not to allow any pets. If housekeeping notes that a pet was present on a non-pet friendly property during your visit, you will be charged a minimum of $600 to clean carpets, upholstered furniture and complete air purification measures. Bringing a pet to a house that is not pet-friendly without owner consent or permission from Greybeard is grounds for termination of the rental agreement without refund. If you must travel with your pet, please contact us for local boarding recommendations. More info about service animals and the ADA is available here.

WHAT ARE CHECK-IN/CHECK OUT TIMES?

Check-in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. It is important that we adhere to these times, because there is a chance that someone else will be checking out/in before or after you and we need sufficient time to ready the house for the next renter. If you wish to check-in early, there is a $50 early check-in fee that can be added on to your reservation. Early check-in is only available if someone is not checking out on the morning of your arrival. Early check-in is not available during the summer conference season. 

WHERE DO WE CHECK-IN/PICK UP KEYS?

You will pick up keys from our Black Mountain office, located at 204 East State Street. Keys will be available starting at 4:00 pm. If you are arriving after hours, you will receive instructions on how to access the safe on our front porch. There will be an envelope with your name and house name at the top. Your keys and driving directions will be inside the envelope.

WHAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY DURING OUR STAY?

If you are having a medical emergency, dial 911 from the phone in your rental home or cell phone.

We hope that your stay in the area will be relaxing and without incident, but should you need to get in touch with Greybeard, we have someone on call 24 hours a day. Just call our office at 828-669-1072 and dial extension 203, which will forward to the cell phone of the person on call. Please do not hesitate to call us if something needs immediate attention, but if your question or concern can wait, we ask that you call the office during normal office hours.

IS THERE A FIREPIT? 

This house does not provide a firepit. Absolutely NO fires are permitted outside unless the property is fitted with a fire ring/fire pit. You cannot bring your own portable fire pit. 

IS WIFI SERVICE INCLUDED WITH MY RENTAL RESERVATION? WILL I HAVE CELL PHONE SERVICE AT MY RENTAL?

Wifi is available at Braeburn. Please note that Greybeard Rentals does not guarantee internet connectivity or speed. Each individual homeowner contracts directly with an internet service provider, and due to a variety of reasons, Greybeard does not guarantee service. Our Black Mountain and Asheville offices have wifi service available if needed.

Cell phone service is not guaranteed. You may check with your service provider to see if service is available.
