Located within two blocks of Lake Tomahawk and a 5-minute drive or 15-minute walk from downtown Black Mountain, this cozy and contemporary cottage allows you to enjoy the best of what Western North Carolina has to offer with style and comfort in mind! Black Mountain has excellent restaurants, boutiques, shops, and more. At Lake Tomahawk, you can catch an epic sunset over the Seven Sisters Mountain Range and a glistening lake. Be sure to check out the sign located on the path to see if you can spot all "Seven Sisters." If you visit the park during the day, be sure to pack a picnic to enjoy alongside the water or take time to play a round of tennis, or golf, or walk the path that surrounds the lake.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Black Mountain is only 10 minutes from the town of Montreat where you can find endless hiking trails that wind through lush rhododendron, along babbling creeks, and lead to cliff faces overlooking the valley and towns below. For bike enthusiasts, Kitsuma, an adventurous 4.5-mile point-to-point trail, or the new Gateway trails in nearby Old Fort, are local favorites and some of the best that the Pisgah National Forest has to offer. Dupont State Park and the Pisgah trails of Brevard are less than an hour’s drive. There's no need to worry about bike storage at Blue Heron Bungalow; guests have access to a small storage space below the home to keep their bikes safe and protected.

After a full day of exploring, come back home to cook your family's favorite meal using the gas grill and farmhouse-style kitchen, complete with stainless appliances and island seating for 3. Easy, one-level living allows for an open-concept living room, sitting area, kitchen, and dining room. Three thoughtfully appointed bedrooms provide space for everyone to unwind comfortably; a bedroom with two twin-size beds, a bedroom with a queen-size bed and dedicated workspace, and a primary bedroom with a modern and elegant en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower.  A second full bathroom can be accessed from the hallway, as well as a separate powder room with a laundry area. The covered front porch calls for enjoying your first cup of coffee in the morning as the day begins or recapping everyone's favorite adventure.

Asheville, which is only 20 minutes away, offers a number of art galleries, restaurants, museums, upscale boutiques, novelty shops, and award-winning breweries guaranteed to keep you entertained for hours on end. The Biltmore Estate is a 15-minute drive. Other attractions in the area include Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, and Mount Mitchell.

A beautiful mountain home

We loved our time at the Blue Heron! We had an extended stay (a few weeks), which meant that we very much appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and the laundry facilities. The house itself is beautifully decorated and spacious – comfortable bedrooms and large bathrooms. The location makes it convenient to everything in Black Mountain, and our dog loved taking daily walks around the path by the lake. I worked remotely while there, and was especially glad to find that the wi-fi was strong and consistent; I had no issue taking video calls or streaming video. If we ever need a vacation rental in Black Mountain again, we'll definitely be back!

Had a very comfortable stay at the Blue Heron Bungalow. All the appliances worked, it is in a great neighborhood, a kitchen with enough space for cooking, and has a nice deep porch for enjoying rainstorms.

The Blue Heron Bungalow was the perfect stay for our gal's mountain getaway. The home was so clean and had all the supplies we needed to make meals in house. And it was the perfect starting place to explore Black Mountain as well as our travel to Asheville for some art classes. We enjoyed the large table for paper crafting and card playing! The beds are comfortable and the decor is very nice. Like the other Greybeard rentals I have rented, I highly recommend the Blue Heron Bungalow.

Fantastic Extended Stay in Black Mountain!

We absolutely loved our time at the Blue Heron Bungalow! Our stay was extended--about a month--and the bungalow was perfect. Both my partner and I work remotely, and the house was plenty big enough for us both to be in meetings at the same time. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed--pots, pans, and even baking essentials. In addition, our hosts were very helpful, providing an extensive list of activities in the surrounding areas and always available if questions about the house came up. Black Mountain is a charming town and the bungalow is perfectly located within it. You can easily walk to the local coffee shop, breakfast places, and dinner restaurants and it is very close to running, hiking, and biking trails in Montreat (about a 5 minute drive away). Close to the house there is a little lake that is beautiful to walk or run around and has a gorgeous view of the mountains. We were originally planning to stay the month in Asheville, and we ended up so glad that we stayed in Black Mountain instead. It is very easy to get into Asheville (only a 15 minute drive) but Black Mountain felt a lot more intimate and less touristy. We couldn't recommend it more!

We have a home in Montreat area that was damaged by water and looked for a place to stay this summer while the house was under renovation. We loved our stay in this bungalow SO much. The open floor plan was perfect for our young family. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The location was great—easy walk to golf course and the lake. Friendly neighbors (some we knew some we didn’t). We would gladly stay here again!

Black Mountain is my favorite place to go experience the best of western NC and this is my new favorite place to land! Such a beautifully remodeled,comfortable home across from a wooded lot. Loved walking around Lake Tomahawk which is so close by with a great view of the Seven Sisters Mountain ridge. Will be coming back!

We had a wonderful weekend at Blue Heron Bungalow. The house is well appointed, welcoming and comfortable with everything you need for a stay in the mountains. The beds are very comfortable and we loved sitting on the front porch enjoying the mountain air. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. Its just a short walk to Lake Tomahawk, and not much further into town, so we walked to town every day for shopping and the restaurants. Our group enjoyed playing golf at the Black Mountain Golf Course and hiking in Montreat. We will be back!

Beautiful restored 100 year old home. Very clean. Friendly neighbors, nice neighborhood, very safe. Walkable to downtown & lake. We enjoyed the front porch very much. Close to hiking trails. No need to leave Black Mountain since there are great restaurants & shops. We had a great time with our friends at this home!
