Anyone who has had the chance to see the Asheville Tourists in action at home can appreciate the simple charm of McCormick Field. Now’s your chance to join Greybeard Rentals in voting to bring it to the attention of everyone around the country. USA TODAY is sponsoring a contest to name the best minor league ballpark in America, and Asheville’s McCormick Field has made the finalist list of 20 ballparks.
McCormick Field, built into a hillside, is home to the Asheville Tourists, the Class A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. The contest description notes that the 35 ft outfield wall adds to the older charm of the ballpark, even though the whole park was renovated in 1992.
The newspaper notes the baseball writers who made the final choices considered the views and architecture, among other elements, to compile their list.
If you haven’t experienced McCormick Field, on the list as one of the 20 greatest minor league ballparks in America, take yourselves out to a ball game. And if you’ve watched tomorrow’s Stars of the Rockies and appreciate the character and simplicity of the ballpark, then go online and vote for this Asheville treasure. According to the contest rules you can vote daily online until August 12th with the field winner announced on August 14th. Come on and step up to the plate!
